3 Bedrooms • 2.5 Bathrooms • Sleeps 3-41800's renovated Farmhouse with stunning views overlooking Lake Algonquin and Dunham Mountain.
This is a great spot for those who are particular. The Farmhouse is kept in immaculate condition, and provides lots of extras, such as 2.5 baths, binoculars, snowshoes, kayaks, canoe, Sonos music, tablecloths, a nice grill, that sort of thing.
Need to work while here? We have 50/50 fiber optic internet, so you can Zoom with a view. Verizon only cell service here.
You will find rugged Adirondack enjoyment outside, modern comfort inside. Favorite activities include the 3.5 mile walk around the lake, kayaking on picturesque Lake Algonquin, skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and hiking to local waterfalls and peaks.
We follow CDC recommendations for cleaning. We have to limit our occupancy this year to four persons, sorry. This is a PET FREE, no smoking, no entertaining home.
The kitchen is part of an open floor plan, and is our favorite room. Beautiful lake views, has propane fireplace, sitting area and dining table, so the cook can converse with everyone. Great farmhouse sink, 5 burner gas stove, dishwasher, expansive wood counter space with breakfast bar. Very nice pots, pans, dishes, glassware, spices and other amenities provided. There is a separate living area with sofa and 40" flat screen for watching Netflix movies. We have no cable TV here, we come here to get away from the news!
Upstairs master bedroom has cathedral ceilings, queen bed, private bath with soaking tub and great lake views. Two guest bedrooms each have one double bed and use of 1/2 bath in upstairs hallway, another full bath is downstairs.
We go out of our way to supply amenities that will make our guests stay a little easier, such as nice towels and linens, binoculars, table cloths, iron and board, kayaks, paddle board, snowshoes, paper towels, tin foil, plastic wrap, napkins, sugar, spices, condiments, lots of little things you would find at home but may not think to bring while traveling. We also share detailed directions on how to get to some amazing local spots, fun waterfalls and places that you might not find otherwise. Some took us years to find!
The yard out by the lake is where we spend our time, soaking in the sun, the view and BBQ'ing up dinner. There is a local road between our house and the lake, but we are above it and it is somewhat obscured. We have Adirondack chairs for lounging and enjoying the view, a fire pit and large Weber gas grill.
WINTER
Winter is magical here! Cozy and warm inside, great sporting opportunities right out your front door. Snowshoe or cross country ski across the lake or on one of many local trails. Lapland Lake is a world class cross country resort with reindeer and authentic Finnish food. Downhill ski at family friendly Oak Mt. or fabulous Gore Mt. Ice fishing, snowmobiling, and winter hiking to local waterfalls are other favorite activities. There are ice car races on the lake on occassional Sundays that can be viewed from the sofa, or go out and watch them up close and personal, very exciting to see!
4 sets of snowshoes provided.
This is snowmobile country, you can sled from here to Canada on groomed trails. Rentals and guided tours available for those trying it for the first time. Give it a shot! Experiencing the Adirondack woods in winter, riding over lakes, stopping in at different Pubs for a pint and a stew can be great fun. Highly recommended.
SPRING, SUMMER and FALL
During the warmer seasons our favorite activities include daily walks around the lake, hikes and swimming in waterfalls, kayaking out front (you drag the kayaks across the road, launch them there). Public fishing dock is out front. Swimming across the road is easy access, but It is a bit rocky, bring water shoes, or public sand beach is one mile away. 2 kayaks and canoe provided. Free tennis and basketball courts within walking distance.
FALL FOLIAGE is SPECTACULAR from the farmhouse. We have unobstructed views of the color filled mountains, doubled by the reflection of these mountains on the lake, really is a sight to see!
MORE ABOUT THE FARMHOUSE
This is one of the oldest homes in town. Was a working farm for 100+ years. Fully renovated 2010. Sits on elevated 3/4 acre across the street from and overlooking Lake Algonquin. Truly gorgeous view.
DISCLOSURE: there is a security camera on the driveway to monitor arrivals, departures, deliveries, snowplowing and snowfall.
What's to LOVE about this house and area? Everything mentioned above.
What might you NOT love? RECYCLES - the town does not pick them up. So the rule here is similar to camping, if you bring a lot it in, you must agree to take them out. Leaving a small amount of recycles (less than one bag full) is fine, but they must be cleaned, dry, separated (see? a hassle, I know) and will be taken to the transfer station and separated by hand by our fabulous housekeeper.
No smoking, no pets (no exceptions, sorry!) and no candles please, this is an allergy sensitive home. We like to offer lower rates if you are just 2 persons, so rates listed are for two. There are additional fees for 3rd and 4th guest, including children.
Watercraft is available for use May-Oct. Guests must be 25 years unless with parent.

About the Owner
Maura's family has had a camp in Wells since 1050's. Maura and Dave renovated a little traler overlooking the lake. It came out so cute and rented all the time, so we continued to purchase/renovate, for a total of 7 properties now!Location
